Congressman Gingrey and his staff met with a patient/client Mr. Franklin and other HME providers to learn more about the effect the caps on home oxygen and medical equipment will surely have on constituents as early as next year. The congressman was able to hear first hand from Mr. Franklin what it is like not to be able to breath and how being dependant on oxygen changes ones life. The congressman and his staff were also educated on the many different types of oxygen modalities and the maintenance and service required keeping patients independent in their home consuming fewer healthcare resource.

Representative Gingrey has co-sponsored HR3559 (Hobson-Tanner) which remedies the provision in the Medicare Modernization Act to impose Competitive Bidding for HME in Medicare likely to hit Atlanta next year. The congressman continues to consider HR5513, the Home Oxygen Patient Protection Act which repeals the oxygen provision in the Deficit Reduction Act to cap home oxygen therapy after 36 months.
